Canadian Online Casinos

By Adam Fonseca ·

Canada is two markets, and which one you are in depends on your province. In Ontario, online casinos have been licensed by the AGCO and run through iGaming Ontario since April 2022, so a player in Toronto can sign up with a site that answers to a provincial regulator. Everywhere else, the only locally licensed option is the provincial lottery site: PlayNow in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, PlayAlberta, OLG in Ontario, Espacejeux in Quebec and the Atlantic Lottery in the east. Alberta has passed its own iGaming law and is setting up a regulated market, which we are following in the news section.

Most Canadians who want more choice than the lottery site play at offshore casinos that accept Canadian players. Those are the casinos we review, and that is what this page is about.

How a casino gets on this list

Every casino in the table accepts players from Canada and has a review on this site written under a named reviewer with an update date. If a casino closes or stops paying, we mark the review closed or blacklisted and take it off this table rather than leaving a dead link up for the commission. The rogue casinos page lists the ones we pulled and why.

Casinos pay us a commission when you sign up through our links. They do not pay for a place on this table and they cannot buy a score. How we review casinos explains what we test.

Depositing and withdrawing in Canadian dollars

Interac e-Transfer is how most Canadians move money to a casino. It is the method the Ontario market runs on, and a growing number of offshore sites take it too, usually through a payment processor rather than directly. If a casino on this list offers Interac, it will show in the cashier before you deposit.

Cards are the next most common option. Debit cards usually go through. Credit cards are hit and miss because some Canadian banks decline gambling charges, and a declined charge can still leave a pending hold on your statement for a few days. Crypto is the third route, and at most offshore casinos it is the fastest way to get paid: a Bitcoin or USDT withdrawal lands in hours once it is approved, where a bank wire takes several business days. Our banking guide covers each method in detail and the Bitcoin guide walks through a first crypto deposit.

Currency matters more than people expect. A casino that lets you hold your balance in CAD saves you the conversion fee your bank charges on the way in and again on the way out, which is typically around 2.5% each way. Many offshore casinos run in US dollars only. That is not a reason to avoid them, but you should know the cost before you deposit, and the review for each casino says which currencies it supports.

Bonuses for Canadian players

The offers are the same ones US players get: a match on the first deposit, sometimes a free chip or free spins with no deposit, and reload bonuses once you are a customer. A bonus is money you have to play through before you can withdraw it, and the playthrough is where most people lose it. Read how wagering requirements work before you accept one, and if you are looking at a no deposit chip, read why no deposit winnings are capped, because the cap is the number that decides whether the chip is worth your time.

The no deposit bonuses page lists the current codes with the cashout cap next to each one.

Is it legal to play at an offshore casino from Canada?

The Criminal Code is written for the people running a gambling operation, not the people playing. We are not aware of any Canadian being charged for playing at an offshore casino. What has changed is the operator side: Ontario now expects any casino serving Ontario residents to hold an iGaming Ontario licence, and Alberta is heading the same way. The practical effect is that some offshore casinos have started declining sign-ups from Ontario. If one on this list does, its review says so.

The legal age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Offshore casinos will ask for ID before your first withdrawal whatever your age, so expect to send a photo of your licence or passport and a proof of address. Why casinos verify identity explains what they ask for and why.

Are winnings taxed in Canada?

For a recreational player, no. The CRA treats gambling winnings as a windfall rather than income, so a slot jackpot or a good night at blackjack is not reported on your return. The exception is someone who gambles as a business, which the CRA decides case by case. If you play for a living, ask an accountant rather than taking that from a casino review site.

Games Canadian players will find

Canada has a long history with Microgaming casinos, and Royal Vegas on the table above is one of the oldest of them. The rest of the list is mostly RTG and Betsoft slots with the usual table games, video poker and a live dealer section at the larger sites. If you have a preference, the Microgaming, RTG and Betsoft pages group casinos by software, and the games section has rules and free trainers for blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and video poker. All of these casinos run in the browser on a phone; the mobile casinos page covers what to expect.

If gambling stops being fun

Every province runs a free, confidential helpline. In Ontario it is ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600; the other provinces publish theirs on their lottery corporation sites. Our responsible gambling page covers the deposit and loss limits most casinos let you set from the account page. Set a limit before you play, not after.

Canadian casino questions

Can I use Interac at an offshore casino?
At some of them. Interac e-Transfer is standard at Ontario-licensed sites and is spreading to offshore casinos through third-party processors. Check the cashier before you deposit; if Interac is not there, debit cards and crypto are the usual alternatives.

Do I have to play in US dollars?
At many offshore casinos, yes. Playing in USD is fine, but your bank will take a conversion fee on the deposit and again on the withdrawal. Casinos that support a CAD balance avoid that, and each review says which currencies the casino offers.

Why is PlayOLG or PlayNow not on this list?
Because we do not review provincial lottery sites. They are licensed, they pay, and they are the safest option if you are happy with their game selection. This site covers the offshore casinos that take Canadian players, which is where the bonuses, the crypto banking and most of the risk are.

What is the legal gambling age in Canada?
19 in most provinces, 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Offshore casinos usually apply 18 as a minimum and verify it with ID before paying out.

Do Canadians get different bonuses from US players?
Usually the same offers. The difference is in the cashier, where some casinos add Interac for Canadians and quote limits in CAD. The bonus terms, wagering requirements and cashout caps are the same.
